MELTEM ŞAHİN

Meltem Şahin (Marmaris, 1989) completed her undergraduate education at the Bilkent University Graphic Design Department with first place and completed her master's degree at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Department of Illustration, with a scholarship. With her successful projects, the artist won the school's prestigious award, the Graduate Research Development Grant, in 2015. The book, with illustrations designed by the artist, was featured in publications and platforms such as P is for Pussy, Huffington Post, Bitch Media, DesignTAXI and BuzzFeed. Selected Illustrations were published in the book American Illustration in 2017. The animation, Flow, received many awards and the film was shown in six different countries. The artist organized her first solo exhibition, Negative Pleasure, in Baltimore in 2016, featuring animation and retro toys. In 2017, PMS curated the first augmented reality show consisting of 22 female artists held in Turkey. This year, the artist exhibited her works at five different events, including the exhibition at Dumphaus as part of The Wrong Biennale in Tokyo. Nowadays, she is working on augmented reality filters and artificial intelligence products. Meltem Şahin creates alternative humanist realities where classes, hierarchy, social status, sexual orientations and beauty standards do not exist. The artist establishes a balance between technology and nature by using traditional techniques such as printmaking and adding details that give the impression of error to prevent the perfection brought by technology.
