MELİS BÜYÜKBAŞ

Melis Büyükbaş, born in Izmir in 1994, graduated from Istanbul University, Department of English Translation and Interpretation. She started taking photographs with an analog camera. When she just started photography, she was photographing objects that could not be interfered with; She realized that she was re-fixing things that were already fixed, or transforming very living things into a completely static and solid form. When she started travelling abroad for her job, she discovered street photography and got involved in photography. Melis, who uses street photography as a direct way to communicate with people, tries to reflect people's absurd states, feelings, lifestyles, facial expressions and reactions in her photographs, as they are and without judgement. She uses only color film and does not make any changes or corrections to his photographs. Treating photography as a witnessing experience, Melis actually includes herself in the photography by observing her own feelings and physical sensations throughout the process. While taking photos, she does not interfere with the things she captures in any way. In her photographs, it is possible to feel that although many people around the world have seemingly different life experiences, they share similar feelings on a deeper level.
